Jackalope 2024
Signed Motel Cowboy Show Giveaways, Pre-Party with Silverada at Jackalope Jamboree 2024
The Motel Cowboy Show and Red Dirt Unplugged Finally Cross Paths
In summer 2023, we released The Motel Cowboy Show: On the Trail of Mountain Music from Idaho to Texas and the Side Roads in Between. That book ended at the 2023 edition of Jackalope Jamboree, which was headlined by Margo Price, Ryan Bingham, and Shane Smith and the Saints. It also featured memorable sets from Vandoliers, Kaitlin Butts, Kelsey Waldon, Rob Lienes, Margo Cilker, and dozens of others (along with our first Jackalope pre-party featuring Josh Fleming and James Dean Kindle. We’re returning to Jackalope from June 27-29, 2024 in Pendleton, Oregon, to celebrate MCS and spread the word about Red Dirt Unplugged. Here are all the plans:
Giveaway: We will have special All-Access editions of The Motel Cowboy Show — complete with a unique Jackalope-branded cover — on hand at Jackalope. Three of those copies will be signed by the artists on the festival bill — so we’re talking Randy Rogers, Jason Boland, Silverada, Kaitlin Butts, and dozens more. We will give those three copies away on the last day of the festival.
How to enter: Pre-order Red Dirt Unplugged between June 19 and Saturday, June 29 at 7 p.m. PDT. All those pre-orders will be automatically entered. We will pick three winners at random, and announce them just before the Cody Canada and the Departed set that evening. We’ll contact you immediately at the email used to pre-order, and we will ship them (free) to the address used when you pre-order … unless you’re at the fest and wish to take your copy home with you that night!
Silverada Album Release Pre-Party: As you surely know by now (because we keep mentioning it), Silverada is releasing an album the moment they step on stage to headline on Thursday night. This is their self-titled album in conjunction with their brand new name — which I discussed with Mike Harmeier and Joe Hudak of Rolling Stone back in January at Mile 0 Fest. You can re-live that party here. Mike and I are gonna run that party back at 1 p.m. sharp Thursday, June 27, at The Great Pacific in downtown Pendleton.
Mike and I will talk about life since the big name change from Mike and the Moonpies to Silverada. We’ll talk about this album. We’ll talk about whether “Americana is a myth” (Spoiler alert: Mike already told you). And Mike will play a handful of songs off of this new album — and maybe an old one just because he can.
This pre-party will be livestreamed on the Silverada Facebook page. And one of Silverada, Jackalope, or I will live-stream it via Instagram too. You can even participate! Have a question you want Mike to answer? Ask it on the Silverada social media feeds or email reddirtbook@gmail.com and tell us what you want to know. We’ll ask at least one and possibly a few, depending on time.
The Motel Cowboy Show: We’re bringing a box of those Motel Cowboy Show All-Access editions to the festival. They’ll be at the merch tent. When they’re gone, they’re gone, and you’ll have to go back to ordering them online like in the old days. I’ll be at the merch tent all three days to sign, answer questions, or just try to sell you books — let’s say 10 minutes after every main-stage set all three days, you can expect me there.
Red Dirt Unplugged: Let’s be real, social media isn’t what it used to be. It’s been quite challenging to spread the word of this new book that is chronicling one of the most important times not just in Red Dirt history but in all of country music. So we’re going to have to get people talking in other ways. That starts at Jackalope. We’ll have stickers and other gifts on hand to give away. We’ll do Tiktok and Instagram hits. We’ll have spur-of-the-moment contests. We’ll have fun. We’ll spread the word like we know how.
See you in rodeo country. — Josh
